Immigrant Rights Center - Somos serves as northern New Mexico’s only comprehensive immigrant resource center where immigrant families can obtain information regarding rights, remedies, and available resources. Last year, more than 2000 immigrant families and service providers obtained information and/or advocacy support at our office.
Civil Rights Project - Somos provides civil rights education throughout New Mexico via know-your-rights workshops, media campaigns, and written materials. In the last ten years, we have trained over 12,000 immigrants how to assert their civil rights and document law enforcement abuses. Somos continues to work with community members and allies to document abuses and organize campaigns to reduce rights violations by law enforcement, local jails, and in the courts.
Immigrant Policy Project - Somos members participate in and coordinate campaigns that challenge anti-immigrant policies and promote immigrant-friendly ones locally and statewide. Most recently, we worked to pass state legislation that bans racial profiling and protects workers against wage theft. We are currently working to garner support for legalization for immigrant students and families.
United Worker Center of New Mexico- Through Somos’ Worker’s Rights Project, a committee of immigrant workers conducts know-your-rights workshops in the community and organizes against rights abuses in the workplace. Workshops and written materials inform low-wage immigrant workers about the Santa Fe Living Wage Ordinance, social security no-match letters, worker’s compensation programs, labor protections and remedies.
